Well it looks like the Panthers and the Broncos will face one another in the Super Bowl, which promises to be a great game even though if I was a betting man, i’d be letting it all ride on the Broncos.
Before I get to celebrating the fact that my team won against the most hated team in the NFL, The New England Patriots, I do want to say this on behalf of the Pat’s kicker: Stephen Gostkowski.
“Fuck ’em. Steve.”
New England Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski missed a PAT Sunday for the first time in nine years, ending his NFL-record streak of 523 consecutive conversions.
The error might have made the final difference in a comeback the Patriots couldn’t complete.
The Denver Broncos defeated the Patriots 20-18 in the AFC Championship Game after Tom Brady’s two-point conversion attempt was intercepted in the final minute of the fourth quarter. The Patriots faced the eight-point deficit in part due to Gostkowski’s missed PAT after a first-quarter touchdown by running back Steven Jackson.
“I feel terrible,” Gostkowski told reporters after the game. “It’s a nightmare scenario. That’s how I feel. I let a lot of people down.” – msn
Seriously.Fuck them. Right now Gostkowski is being made the scapegoat by armchair quarterbacks across the country who are putting the blame for tonight’s loss squarely upon his shoulders. I think that’s a bunch of bullshit because let’s be honest here. If your win comes down to one play, it’s not the fault of that player when it doesn’t happen. In the end, the Pats played like utter gladiators and please believe as a guy who hates their guts, I have to give credit where credit is due. But if Pat’s fans are going to point the finger at anyone, it shouldn’t come down to Stephen who gave his all for that organization this year.
He has nothing to be ashamed of.
